Charlotte, Tib, Mrs. Norcliffe, Charlotte and Tib again, one or other with me with not more than about an hour’s interval till 4 20/.., during which wrote 3 pages and the ends and under the seal to Mariana. Could not count upon her before the 4th or 5th of next month. Have changed my plans accordingly. Myers having promised me the carriage on the 2nd, she ‘may as well travel in it to Leeds, or farther, as may happen to suit us best. In the meantime, I shall do as much as I can at home, and hope to be off from here on Wednesday or early on Thursday morning at latest, and to breakfast at Shibden on Friday morning. This will give me a week; and we will afterwards make the best we can of all the time you have to spare. Do not let a day be lost on my account. I can be at your service whenever you like, only give me as much notice as you can.’ In my new arrangements, shall take care to keep economy in view, but nothing can be fixed till I hear what time we shall have. Ask her to let me have a few lines here before being off on Wednesday. Can she spare a fortnight or 3 weeks? Anxious for a better account of herself and Mrs. Milne. Think she had better write a kind letter of thanks to Mrs. Norcliffe for her kind message of invitation received this evening. After Wednesday to direct to me at Shibden and immediately on arriving in York, to see after the carriage and write to me ‘in answer to which you shall hear what to do.’ Say there is plenty of room at Shibden for whatever she may choose to send there.
