Thinking of her
far too much last night and this morning.
In tears then, and almost now. Surely this tyranny will pass away
forever by and by.
Fine
morning – F 60 1/2° in my room at 9 and 42° now at 9 1/4 in the balcony.
Headachy,
rather bilious, and not feeling well this morning – feverish – No wonder –
Down at 9 25/.. – breakfast in 35 minutes – Out at 10 10/.. – Went to Mr. Wooll’s for my Bernay’s German and exercises and Goldsmith’s Little almanack [sic] – Staid cutting open the leaves till 11 – Then walked forwards reading my little grammar – At 11 25/.., a smartish shower drove me into the Hare and Hounds public house – Sat there reading very comfortably 20 minutes till it was fair – Then walked slowly to the 3 mile stone and back at 1 1/2 –
5
minutes with Miss Hobart. Better – the
two dessert spoonfuls castor oil she took last night operated at three five and
afterwards.
Changed
my dress – from 2 10/.. to 2 3/4, downstairs with Miss H-. Then came to my room – looking over Goldsmith’s
almanac etc. That is, cut my nails till at
3 40/.., wrote the above of today – and settling accounts till 4 25/.. From then
to 6 3/4, slumbering over my little German Grammar –
Dressed – Dinner at 7 – Music – Tea and coffee at 8 1/2 – Then won 2 hits at backgammon – From 10 to 11 25/.., read aloud from page 338 to 394 of Chapter 26, volume iv. Gibbon and came to my room at 11 1/2 –
A minute in her
room – to wish goodnight. She looked and just said in a rather affectionate
tone, kiss me, which I did slightly, and came away. I had been rather grave and
not talkative all the evening, but perfectly civil. –
Shower
for about 25 minutes between 11 and 12 but afterwards fine day – Fine moonlight
night now at 11 1/2, at which hour, F 63° in my room. Good fire -- F 41° in the balcony now at 12
50/.., till which hour at my German fables –
