Rainy
morning.
F 46° at 7 inside and 35° at 8 20/.. outside my window –
Some time speaking to John – From 8 20/.. to 9 1/2, reading over again the first few pages of Section 3, De la Beche – Breakfast at 9 1/2 with Marian in about an hour – Then with my aunt and came to my room at 11 – Fair for 1/2 hour about 10, then rain again –
An hour and 1/4 looking over the Halifax library catalogue what books to send for this afternoon –
From 11 1/4 to 5, reading over again Section 3, i.e. from page 155 to 181, De la Beche, and studying his Geological Sections, ‘Selections and Views Illustrative of Geological Phenomena, by Henry de la Beche F.R.S. F.G.S, London, Treuttel and Würtz, Junior and Richter, Soho Square, and Gardner, Regent Street, Paris and Strasburgh, Treuttel and Würtz, 1830. Text (description of plates) pages 71 and 40 plates.
Began
and read the Introduction to Ure’s Geology, 55 pages – Dinner at 6 10/..
– 3/4 hour nap – Read the 2 first chapters, first 50 pages of the work itself, Ure’s Geology – Chapter 2 from page 17 ‘of
light.’ I have not much comprehended – will try it again – Went into the other
room at 9 35/.. – Rainy day – windy, rainy night – Came upstairs at 10 35/..,
