Very fine morning –
F 62° at 7 a.m.
Breakfast
at 9 3/4 in 1/2 hour; before and after at German – r[ea]d a very lit[tle] of
the Hamburg Reporter of the 27th inst[ante mense] – M[onsieur] Christiani
5th Less[on] fr[om] 11 10 1 25/.. long to make up for the one manquée yesterday
–
Wrote
out 4th lesson translation and that of this morning (slumbered a little over
the latter – the sun hot in my room) till 3 –
Out
at 3 20/.. – thro’ the Roskilde gate to the 1/2 mile (about 2 or 2 1/2 English
miles) stone and back thro’ through the town not direct as I went out – Neat
suburb (Faubourg) almost all the way to
the palace – and good (macadamized) road beyond there – Good avenue of limes
ash, oak, or Elm, all the way – Nice walk along the roadside – A pity not to
excursionize this fine weather, but I am so taken up with my German –
Home
at 5 40/.. – Brought back under my shawl the pound of (6) wax lights I bought
at 5 marks – The man said an Ecu (6 marks) till I said 5 as M. de Hagemann
told me yesterday –
Dinner
at 5 55/.. – and read the whole of the Hamburg Reporter of the 27th instante

Potatoes will keep till the
Spring without sprouting if laid on charcoal dust –
At
my desk at 7 3/4 – In two and three
quarters hours wrote 4 pages of large-sized 1/2 sheet note paper to
Lady Stuart till 10 3/4
