8 55/..

12 1/4

Rainy morning, F 52° at 9 – Breakfast at 10 20/.. in 25 minutes – Then at German – Then a little nap till 12 35/..

Then very kind note from Lady Harriet to say impossible to stir out in such rain – but if fine between 3 & 4 would come – At any rate would send the carriage for me to dinner a little before 5 – Answer back cannot thank her half enough – How very good of her! – Could not possibly expect her today – Will not be fine enough for her to stir out – Will be happy to drive there –

Then at accounts till 3 – French cash book account all but logs 2/50 – Very well, out of 5/20 –

Lady Harriet came soon after some time here talking to Eugénie about my dress for the Queen’s birth night on the 28th – Then went with me to buy white satin etc. and head dress till 5 10/.. – Dinner at Lady Harriet’s at 5 1/2 – Coffee – tea at 9 –

Home at 10 1/4 in carriage of my own (from Peterson’s – Went with Lady H- in hers) –

My cold baddish today but have kept off sore throat –

Very well with the de Hs tonight.  They pleased to see, not sparing anything to make my dress handsome.  It will cost me altogether twenty pounds.

He went to Madame Billes for near an hour.  Explained quietly to Lady H- my anxiety to do all that was right and that my going with Countess B- [Blucher] on Tuesday was really intended by all of us to be right.  Did not want to oblige and pother her, Lady H-, to go up and down when it might not quite suit her.  She owned she had been annoyed at Countess B.  There was a particular feeling about it  The people seemed wishing to get hold of me.  Besides, Madame Hokschilde did not like Countess B, much less Miss Ferrall.  Nobody seems to like the girl that I was not singular.  Told Lady H- I should depend upon her for telling me all that was necessary, never to mind what she heard I had said or done, always to ask myself,  and we are now capital friends

Very rainy day till between 2 and 3 p.m.  Sunshiny at 3 and very fine while we were out – and fair as I returned home.  F 53° now at 11 20/.. p.m.
