Mild, damp (a little rain, and at 7 rainy) morning. F 51° at 6 3/4 inside just before lighting the fire and 45° outside my window at 8 1/4.

Breakfast at 9 5/.. with Marian in 3/4 hour – Then reading De la Beche –

Downstairs at 12 – Read prayers in 35 minutes and Sermon 33, Mr. Knight in 14 minutes, and came to my room at 1 1/4 – From then to 4, read (all but 22 pages before prayers) from page 181 to 230, Section 4, De la Beche’s Geology –

Note (per post by John from church) from the Philosophical Society to say that, at a special meeting held on Friday, it was resolved ‘that a building be erected for the reception of the museum, and other property of the Society, in shares of £20 each among the members of the Society; any member being at liberty to take not more than five shares’ – A book open at the museum for subscriptions previous to an adjourned general meeting on Monday 11th instante mense at 7 p.m. – A regular monthly meeting will be held tomorrow evening – I shall take one share and put my name down tomorrow –

Out at 4 20/.. and in my walk till came in at 5 50/.. Dinner at 6 5/.. – Afterwards read from page 114 to 195, Ure’s Geology, and went into the other room at 9 20/..

Letter from Eugénie to say her friend could only accommodate her 3 weeks – She is now at greater expense than 12/. a week, and very civilly wishes to know when I can take her – talked to Marian about having her (Eugénie) here and Thomas, too – Marian behaved very well about it – thought that, were she in my place, unless I meant to make a long stay, she would not have them here, but begged me to consider about and do what I thought best – Talked it over with my aunt, and incline to getting off as soon as I can – to Langton by end of this month or beginning of the next – 

Came upstairs at 11 5/.. – Finish day – Fair in the morning between 9 and 10, and afterwards fair the rest of the day till near 6 – Just beginning to rain when I came in at 5 50/.. and a little rain afterwards – F 52 1/2° now at 11 10/.. --
