morning. F 48 1/2° inside at 7 and 42° outside at 9 20/..
Wrote and copied note and sent by John before breakfast (respecting having seen Mr. Carr yesterday) to Mr. Mitchell, Land Agent, Halifax’, saying I understood Mr. Carr would take a shilling a yard for the land and throw in the buildings, which I declined – Would not tell his (Mitchell’s) valuation, but said another person had valued the estate at £2,000; and asked if he (Carr) would take £2,500 – Made no offer, saying I had put the matter into his (Mitchell’s) hands and that he had better see Mr. Carr again on the subject –
Dressed – from 8 25/.. to 9 20/.. Making conclusion of notes from Latrobe's Alpenstock Travels in Switzerland –
Breakfast
at 9 1/2 with Marian – she mended my
pelisse. Talked of putting Eugénie
into the hall chamber – Marian thought this the most reasonable plan I had
ever mentioned for her here – and made no objection to my having Thomas
Beech here –

minutes with my aunt.
My cousin come
in very gently after breakfast. Prepared.
Out
at 11 3/4 with John planting the 20 hollies spared of yesterday in the East
slope of the walk – Then sauntered about there and came in at 1 5/.. –
Skimming
over Section 2, De la Beche’s Geology, to page 84 till 2 and then out
with John –
Took
Throp’s acorns – had Pickels, and began planting the Godley road embankment – It
soon began to rain, yet I staid, and did not get home till 3 55/.. – Not exactly
wet, but changed my things.
From
4 35/.. to 5 50/.., skimmed over from page 84 to 154, end of Section ii, De
la Beche’s Geology – Cut open Lindley, Natural System of Botany –
Dinner
at 6 10/.. Afterwards till 9 35/.. (had near an hour’s nap), read from page 155
to 181 (i.e. Section) De la Beche’s Geology and then went into the other room
–
Came
upstairs at 10 3/4, at which hour, F 46 1/2° -- Finish morning and day till after
2 – Then rainy afternoon and evening –
