Rainy morning, F 54° at 8 – Breakfast at 9 10/.. in 1/2 hour –

Out at 9 55/.. – Walked 25 minutes (1 1/4 in English) beyond the 1/2 mile-post on the Roskilde road to the barrier at the far end of the lake and trottoir – There at 11 1/4 in 1 20/.. hour and home at 12 40/.. – Disagreeable, windy day, raining more or less some part of the way going and almost all the way returning –

Dressed – Mr. Browne called for 2 or 3 minutes at 1 1/2  to say the audience was to be at 2 p.m. tomorrow – Should be at Mrs. Browne’s at 1 3/4 to take up her and Mrs. Stuart Courtenay – Sent to order carriage for tomorrow and for tonight at 7 1/2 to go to Lady Harriet, and pay Comtesse Blucher for my play ticket of last night –

From 2 1/4 to 5 20/.. at my accounts or rather calculating the values of different monies etc. Dinner at 5 20/.. in an hour – Then calculating again till 7 –

Dressed – Out at 7 40/.. – Countess Blucher not at home – Then to the de Hagemanns’ – Lady Harriet ordered her carriage and took me to the Russian minister’s, baron Nicolai – not at home – Then to Miss Oxholm’s (palace of prince William of Hesse).  Not at home – Lady Harriet wrote my name on her cards – the turn down of the corner to signify en personne – Tea at 9 at Lady Harriet’s – Monsieur de Sarmento (Portugueze Chargé d’Affaires) came to take his final leave –

Home at 10 40/.. – Rainy, windy morning, but tolerable while I was out – I had scarcely returned before the rain was heavier – Very rainy afternoon and evening, but fair when I returned tonight, and nearly so at 7 40/.. and afterwards – F 56 1/2° now at 11 3/4 p.m. --

1835 September Saturday 26 8 12 1/4 No kiss. 1839 July Saturday 13 3 3/4 Fine morning – Fahrenheit 73° at 4 1/4 a.m. – Off at 5 – At Quickvorn [Quickborn] at 7 10/.. – Good cultivation, grass and corn about Hamburg – Asleep – at 5 10/..,   Stopt 10 minutes – At Quickborn, asleep – Not much of a place – Paid as might be – Some moor about 1/2 way between Hamburg and Quickborn and ditto ditto between Quickborn and Bramstedt, nice little rather scattered picturesque town where we stopt to breakfast from 9 20/.. to 10 50/.. – coffee – little cups and milk as in England and bread and butter – 1 mark each – Nice, clean public room and nice, civil people, but as usual could not, through Gross, understand the money till a civil English speaking Dane came in, who explained to me intelligibly – Now at 11 1/4 = 6 1/4 meilen to Kiel –  Just as we came away, the Eilwagen Diligence arrived – 5 or 6 gentlemen had come in, one or more ladies seemed to be still in the diligence – 3 compartments or divisions as in Fran...

1829 July 14th Tuesday 5 20/60   /   12 5/60 A cross last night thinking of Mariana.   Left for the post my letter written last night to Mr. James Briggs, Horton Street, Halifax, Yorkshire, Angleterre.   Gave George several commissions to do, to order horses at 2 1/4 etc. etc. and to be at the Jardin on my leaving the chemical lecture at 10 20/60. Breakfast at 6 20/60.   Walked to the boulevard, then per fiacre to the Jardin des Plantes in 34 minutes at 7 34/60.   The door shut.   Could   not go into the gallery, so missed the botanical lecture and walked about.   Sat some time reading lesson 35 Chimie Générale, then went up to the belvidere or temple and stood there 1/2 hour looking about me enjoying the fine view over and around Paris.   W ent into the Amphitheatre at 9 10/60. 35th chemical lecture began at 9 20/60; came away at 10 20/60.     24th lecture on the mollusques from 10 1/2 to 11 3/4, then 18th geologica...
