Fine morning. F 63° at 11 1/2 a.m. after Monsieur Christiani went –

Breakfast at 8 40/.. – Sat reading the Hamburg Reporters of 16th and 20th instante mense – M. Christiani at 9 3/4 to 11 1/4 – 1st lesson – To take 1 dozen lessons at 1 Ecu chaque one every day, and then make another arrangement – Perhaps may take 2 a week – Thomas to have somebody at 2 marks a lesson in an evening –

From 11 1/2 to 1 1/4 writing out literal English translation of the German I had done with M. Christiani, about 2 pages of Kotzebue –

The Comtesse Blucher and Miss Ferrall called at 1 1/4 for about near an hour – Then out with them shopping, and left them at their own door at 4 –

Then sat above 1/2 hour with Lady H. de H- [Harriet de Hagemann] – and home at 5 1/4 –

Changed my dress – Dinner at 5 3/4 in 3/4 hour, then till about 9 1/2 at my German, looking over all the words of the morning and doing a little more – Then took my wine and read the Hamburg Reporter of the 23rd instante mense till 10 1/4 p.m., at which hour, F 65 1/2°.  Very fine day –
