Fine
morning and F 57° at 9 –
Sitting
down to breakfast at 9 when Marian sent for me – to talk about the servants – Said
I intended Eugénie to go tomorrow – therefore Marian would send Matthew off
tomorrow –
Had
finished breakfast at 10, then 1/2 hour with Ann –
Ann
off to Cliff hill at 11 1/2 to take leave of her, sister and back at 1 50/..
just as the men had returned to work – An hour with – Cheered her up – She was
very low on parting her sister – The Sutherlands to dine at Mr. Parker’s at 5
and sleep there and be off at 7 a.m. tomorrow per coach to Manchester, thence
per rail road and steam home – Ann’s carriage went at 3 to take them to Mr.
Parker’s –
Except
the hour with Ann on her return all the day from 10 1/2 to 6 1/2 with the
workmen – With William Keighley and his man felling trees oaks in the old hedge
row between the Pearson Ing and Calfcroft and upper brook Ing – or at the
Cascade bridge – There all the afternoon and made Mawson’s 8 men really work
for the last hour or 2 –
Dressed
– dinner at 6 55/.. – Coffee – An hour with my father and lastly with Marian –
1/4 hour or 20 minutes Ann and I with my aunt till 10 5/.. – She had
written her will herself (copied from Mr. Gray) and Ann and Oddy witnessed this
as they had done the other –
Wrote
the whole of yesterday and today till 11 p.m., at which hour, F 58° – Fine till
about 2 p.m.; afterwards, rain for an hour or two, and then fair from about 4
p.m.
Letter
tonight from the Halifax Philosophical Society to announce the
annual meeting on Monday
