No kiss.
Very
rainy morning. F 51 1/2° now at 9 10/..,
at which hour, went down to breakfast –
Had
the man at the door who broke the iron rails at the drift the other night, who
gave me his name, David Walton, and came with his uncle – Butterworth of
Coldwell hill – Said it must be settled before the magistrates – I had his bundle,
and should give it up to the constable – Then had Joseph Mann about the rail-breaker
– told Joseph to mention the circumstances to Mr. Parker and say I thought we had
better send the constable after the man –
Then
a little while with my father and Marian and with Ann in the north parlour looking
at and reboiling up some Lidgate sweetmeats that were spoiling – Then came to
the blue room and sat reading (a few minutes in the stable about noon) till 4
10/.. from page 102 to 185 Bakewell’s Geology (3rd time over –)
Fair
but still very damp soon after 3 – and Ann off on my pony (as usual her own not
manageable enough) to Cliff hill at 3 1/2 –
I
went out at 4 1/4 – Some time talking to Frank at the Cascade bridge, clearing
dirt from off the causeway –
Rain
came on heavily about 4 3/4 – Went down to the hut and staid there till near 6 –
Dressed. Dinner at 6 40/.. Coffee – Near an hour with
my father and Marian till 8 40/.. – Then read from page 185 to 197 Bakewell – With
my aunt 1/4 hour till 10 5/.. then
helping Ann to tie up preserve pots till F 53 1/4° at 11 10/.. p.m.
Very rainy day, so
that not one workman here except a mason for a little while before noon doing
something at fire-place in George’s room –
