Fahrenheit 48° at 7 3/4 a.m. – Breakfast at 9 1/4 in 20 minutes – Read (before breakfast) the first 34 pages, Volume 4 Moyen Âge traduit de l’Anglais de M. Hallam –

At 10 7/.., drove off to Madame Galvani’s,. supposing she would be at home to give me a lesson – No! Just going out to Madame Brownrisse, No. 32 rue de Rivoli, so set her down there –

Then went to No. 56 rue des Arcis to my old tea shop, removed from No. 3 rue des Lombards – Then bought cheese at Bertrand’s, and home at 12 10/60 –

About 1/2 hour talking to my aunt about the tea, etc. etc. – From 12 50/.. to 2, read from page 50 to 70, Volume 1, Flore de Français – A little drowsy once for a few minutes –

Drove out with my aunt at 2 1/4 to the bois de Boulogne – My usual walk in 1 40/.., and home at 5 –

Very civil note from M. Droz of excuse – Madame Droz not well enough to come – Note also from Dr. Tupper – could not come because called out of town –

Dressed – Dinner at 6 1/4 – Read the paper, as usual partly aloud – Came to my room at 8 40/.. – Coffee at 9 35/.. – Came to my room at 10 40/.., at which hour, Fahrenheit 51° –

From 10 3/4 to 11 50/.. and before coffee, read from page 70 to 116, Volume 1, Flore Française

Fine day – no sun, and coolish,  though I was hot enough in walking –

My larynx offensive.  Nearly half hour cutting up and making away with it down the water closet after Cameron had left me.  Thus has ended my first anatomical preparation.  I shall know better another time.  Had I not cut this too much, I should have merely changed the spirit, for it was this alone that smelt so bad –
