No kiss.
Fine morning. Breakfast at 9 50/.. – Afterwards (not able
to read prayers to my aunt), read from page 248 to 281 ii Gützlaff –
Then till 2, wrote the whole
of this and the last page and wrote note to ‘John Waterhouse, Esquire,
Wellhead’
Very
particularly obliged for his note of yesterday
‘I
hope I have not very inconveniently trespassed on your time – If I have, I
regret it the more, because I am sure you would , with pleasure, do me any
service in your power’ –
Saw
in yesterday’s Halifax Guardian the advertisement of the meeting to be on the
3rd proximo and that ‘Specifications and a report thereupon are left at the
office of the Company for the information and inspection of the proprietors.’
The
estimate you are so good as give me of the money to be expended (about 25 per
cent on the stock) does certainly not exceed my expectation.
I
am, dear sir, very truly yours,
A
Lister’ –
At Lightcliffe church in 19
minutes at 2 1/2 – Waited 6 minutes – Mr. Wilkinson did all the duty – Preached
24 minutes less interestingly than last Sunday from the same text, Ecclesiastes
xi.3.
Home at 4 1/2 – Some time
with my aunt (had just seen her for a minute before going to church) In great pain now and all last night – Never
suffered so much during whole night – She had nevertheless taken the
strengthened opium pills – She looks ill –
Then a little while with my
father and Marian – The latter surely means to marry as soon as may be after my
father’s death Mr. Abbott as it seems. Well, be
it so. I only hope
she will not marry as if from Shibden, and that I shall be away –
Dinner at 6 – Ann poorlyish
with pain in her neck – Coffee – Wrote the above of this page and looked over
newspapers and talked to Ann till 8 3/4 – Then 20 minutes with my aunt – Rubbed
Ann’s back with strong saturated solution of camphor in spirit of wine 12
minutes – 1st time of trying camphor –
Very fine day. Fahrenheit 46° now at 10 1/2 p.m. –
