Came upstairs and wrote 3 pages
to my aunt (Shibden) and sent them in ample time for the post at 2 –
In the course of the morning
and evening, read aloud to Harriet the 1st. 162. pages, and afterwards, to myself
from page 356 to 414 of Volume 1, Galiffe’s Italy –
‘Italy
and its inhabitants; an account of a tour in that country in 1816 and 1817: containing

dialects, theatres, and the fine arts; with some remarks on the origin of Rome

Told Harriet of her pronouncing whole as if spelt
whoole of saying ‘to a degree’ and calling Steph man, for instance, how can you
say so man. Told her how this struck me.
She took all this quite well –

Burder’s oriental customs, Butler’s introduction to ancient geography, and Walker’s
key to Classical pronunciation –
Never stirred out –

Came upstairs at 10 3/4 – Wrote
out into this volume the journals from the latter half of last Monday up to
last Saturday and wrote on loose paper this journal of today, all which took me
till 1 1/4 – Did my things for the wash –
