Much snow on the ground – Cold morning.  Breakfast at 8 55/.. with Ann in 1/4 hour, she going off to Mr. Horner, who had waited since 8 – I sat reading the paper of last night till near 10 downstairs  and till after 10 1/2 upstairs – Fahrenheit 37 1/2° inside at 10 1/2 and 35 1/2° outside at 10 3/4 –

Had Booth at 10 50/.. Came for a batten to be used at the engine house – Then with Robert the joiner and about in the house with Ann till now 11 3/4 – From then to five and a half wrote out vide interruption below § fair copy of my letter to Stuart de Rothesay, much altered from what I wrote last night

At 5 35/.., ran out to Listerwick and back at 6 5/.. –

§ Had Robert Mann about 1 for near an hour talking of one thing or other – He came about the scale moving from near the water wheel –

Dressed – My little run warmed my feet, icy cold ever since last night – Found the masons all on the Spot – the boilerhouse all down – The chimney flue well forwarded – To be done next Monday or Tuesday –

Dinner at 6 1/2.  Ann read French in the dining room – Read the newspaper – 1/2 asleep on the sofa – Tea between 9 and 10 – Sat talking – Fine day overhead – Reading Lord Lindsay, Volume I.  

Came upstairs at 11, at which hour, Fahrenheit 35 1/2° inside and 33° outside at 11 1/4 p.m. –
