Thursday 26

8 3/4

1 1/2

Two last night –

Sat talking over 1 thing or other till between 2 and 3, and then Mariana and I went out a little into the town –

Went to Smith’s, the bookseller’s – I bought (2nd hand) Clarke’s edition of the Odyssey, Dawes’s Miscellaneous Criticisms, Lempriere’s Classical dictionary, Erasmus’s colloquies, and a small French translation of Lucian – Made Smith take off a quarter of what he asked and gave him £1.10.0.

Afterwards, Harriet took a turn with us along the new public walk, along the side of the canal –

Came in a little before 4, and some heavyish rain almost immediately afterwards –

In the evening, Mariana and I played a couple of rubbers against Steph and Harriet and neither won nor lost –

Fine morning rainy afternoon and evening

Came upstairs about 11 – Sat up talking –
