Lay in bed on account of my
cold and sore throat and have not been out all today on that account –
In the morning, wrote page
4th of the 2nd sheet and filled 1/2 sheet more for an envelope to Mrs. Norcliffe.
In the afternoon and evening,
read the greater part of the Monthly Review for July 1820. Praise of Dr.
Prichard’s work on Egyptian mythology, of Dodwell’s § tour through Greece, and of Britton’s
antiquities of the Cathedrals of Norwich, Winchester, and York, and of his
Illustrations of Ancient architecture.
Very fine day – Barometer 3
degrees above changeable. Fahrenheit 40°
at 9 p.m. –
Not better tonight, but not much
worse –
§ Dodwell says a man is less
liable to take the plague after he has had it once, and if he has it a 2nd or 3rd
time has it gradually more mildly till he becomes fortified against it altogether
