Looking over some views (not
well lithographed but interesting as any views of Norway are to us) left
on our table by our Ex-guide, Mr. Poulson who, it seems, would be glad to
accompany us through Norway – The views (1/2 quarto opening à l’Italien) printed

I Lister. Lister is a district along the sea in Christiansands = Stift. Vide in my Göttreborg – bought map Mandals At.
i.e. Mandals Arapt (or province or shire) – How striking that there should be
in Norway a District or little division called Lister – Is this an
ancient name?
The Scene is a cottage and
water and zigzag road up mountains one side of narrow valley – Ann and I walked
about the room perhaps 1/2 hour till 9 3/4, then till 12 10/.., she reading
Laing’s Norway that we found on our
table on returning home this afternoon and making extracts, and I reading over
Mr. Poulson’s papers (nothing particular) and then inking over this book some pages
back –
Dull but fair till about 7
p.m. and then some rain but not very much – Fahrenheit 67 1/4° now at 12 1/4 tonight
