August

Monday 12

8 40/..

10 1/2

Fine morning.  Sunny, Fahrenheit 63° at 9 40/.. a.m.

Breakfast at 9 50/.. – Smith came soon after –

Had Mr. Poulson – He asked the price of one carriage for 2 English gentlemen, arrived yesterday – I would think about it – The Landlord said 50 species thalers the value, but I must take less.

Out at 11 40/.. – By the back of the town along the little ? into the Drammur Road.  At some distance towards the Presq’isle, the public gardens of the inhabitants of Christiania – 3 boat-stations – We stood at the middle one – Beautiful view – The pavillion in sight on the Presque Isle district, right, and a bridge over the fjord at the foot of the pavillion hill – No company there yesterday on account of the weather.  A drop or 2 of rain as we came in at 2 1/4 –

Said I would take 40 for the carriage – The English gentlemen will not take it – The Landlord here offers me 35 species thalers – I decline this – Think to post it to Götheborg – The carriage fare on board the steamer will be 18 species thalers and Ann and myself 9 species thalers each exclusive of Sundays –

’Tis now 3 25/.. – Nor passport visé nor anything done –

Had Smith and the Landlord about the carriage etc. – Sold it to a medical professor for 40 species

Dinner at 6 and Smith left us to dine and returned at 7 1/4 – Then paid him – Read a little – He satisfied – Went away at 8.  To call us at 4 1/4 and see us off at 4 1/2 –

Then, till 10, busy about 1thing or other –

Rain about 3 1/2 for some while, then fair afterwards –

Lay down at 10 1/2, having taken off my dress, black stuff, petticoat, drawers, and shoes and stockings – Ann undressed –
