Had been up for 1/2 hour a
couple of hours, before but lay on the bed and not finally up till so late – Breakfast
at 10 50/.. –
All off in the remise landau at
12 1/2 to the handsome Chateau de Borelli – Arrived in 35 minutes – About 1/2 hour
in the house – Not inhabited for several years, but very well kept up – Full of
pictures, the best to be seen hereabouts – Some tolerable ones –
Then walked down to the sea –
A strip of sands on which we could walk in comfort – A long stroll along the
sea to some houses, where the carriage met us and we were off back at 3 1/2,
and alighted at the foot of Notre Dame de la Garde at 4 – 1 1/2 getting to the
top and resting by the way – Very fine
view from there as we had also had from the Chateau – Magnificent view of the
whole town from Notre Dame –
Stopt at the great music shop
in the rue Saint Ferrcol, and home at before 6 – Dressed – Dinner at 6 20/.. –
Mr. Fitzgerald, son of late Lord
Edward Fitzgerald, called between 8 and 9 (about 9) for near an hour – Then sat
talking to Lady Stuart, and came to my room at 12 10/..
Very fine day – Coolish out
of the sun –
Wrote 2 pages and the ends
and finished my letter to Mariana – which took till 2 40/..
Marginal note: Just after
dinner, wrote a page to Mariana
