Saturday 8 

Out at 8 35/.. 3/4 hour to see the chine waterfalls 35 feet, and a little of the village – Pretty and picturesque – Breakfast at 9 20/.. Milk and sand eels – Rain from 8 3/4 –

Off at 10 1/2 – Brading Harbour very pretty – Brading nice, good little village – Nice old church – Pretty drive from Shanklin to Ryde, 10 miles.  Pretty immediately about Ryde – Some pretty gentlemen’s cottages –

Stopt at the house on the Pier at 12 – Asleep on the sofa till 2 3/4 – Asleep as we drove along – The milk had done this – I must go back to tea –

Fairer about 1 1/2 – But still damp and small rainy –

Out on the pier at 2 3/4 – 3/4 mile long – Intelligent sailor – Not to see the dockyard at Portsmouth on Wednesday or Saturday because the workmen not employed those days –

Ryde beautiful from the pier –

Off at 3 40/.. Raining, but fair in about 1/2 hour – Turn off from Newport at 5 10/.. – Drove through the park of Norris Castle, cross the ferry at 6 in 5 minutes, and at the Fountain Inn again at 6 10/.. –

Tea at 6 40/.. Kept the things, and reading today’s Times till 8 50/.. –
