Off from Highcliff at 12 –
At the hotel Christchurch at
12 19/..
At Bournemouth at 12, very
pretty, whitewashed hamlet 4 3/4 miles from Poole – Neat Inn – A gentlemen’s
house ? and 2 or 3 farms with carriage road down to the sea. 15 minutes walk – Fine view of Hengistbury
Head, too hazy for Isle of Wight except just the fanteuil – On the other side [flagstag] and preventive station –
Save on the little hill above
Wick other side Christchurch and out of and above Bournemouth, no sea view – Heath
or moor, newly planted (firs) all the way to Poole –
Off again at 1 1/2 – 1 mile
from Poole and afterwards, fine sea view – Brownsea island ? land and a beautiful
break in the bay –
Poole very neat handsome
brick town some large very good houses, a good deal of shipping in the harbour
and several vessels building –
Changed at the old Antelope –
Wareham neat little town at 3 20/..
At 4 5/.. Corfe, large limestone built village with 2 or 3 little Inns – drove up to the castle gateway but too rainy to get out – Large ruins covering top of mound between the 2 ranges of hills that form narrow just here and the great valley.
Margin: cliffs gravelly as at Highcliff but not quite so bad.
