Touched her last night and this morning, but not to amount to regular grubbling –

Finish morning – Breakfast at 9 25/.. – Packing for Miss Walker her drawing box – Work ditto – Box of repaired china, books etc. etc. and siding till 4 in the afternoon – She had no dinner but a glass of wine and a biscuit just before we went out at 4 20/.. –

Left her to go along the fields to Cliff hill and I came home – saw them all, and back at Lidgate in 1/2 hour at 6 1/2 – Dinner – tea – Miss W-  wrote 3 letters and 4 notes, and I looked over her account with her sister that she had copied out from the one I did, and then looked into Volume 1, Jameson’s Mineralogy – Looked at her banking book.  She had just got eighty pounds for her journey (would have got hundred with her) and had fifteen hundred and twenty left at the bank.

Came upstairs at 11 1/2 – Finish day, till between 5 and 6, and then rain, then hail, and then a snow shower which whitened the ground – Quite fair as I returned to Lidgate –

Friday, March 9, 1832

  1832 March Friday 9 7 1/2 12 50/.. Fine, frosty morning. F 56° at 7 1/2 in my room and 40° at 9 in the balcony – Downstairs at 9 – Miss Hobart writing to Lady Stuart, and finished copying the paper she lent me, Dr. Stewart’s method of treating pulmonary consumption – Breakfast at 10 – Off, Miss H- and I, and Norbury with George by way of treat, at 11 10/.. to  see Winchelsea and Rye –  Went by Pett to return Miss H-’s call from Mrs. Henry Wynch of Pett Rectory – There at 12 5/.. – received by the old Wynch mother for a few minutes till the daughter-in-law came herself, and soon afterwards, the long thin Reverend Henry himself, who would have talked much more in answer to my talking, had his mother left room – The living his own – Bought about 7 years ago – Had added to the small, low house, planted all shrubs and flowers, and laid out £300 upon the small, low, picturesque, neat-looking village church –  The village very straggling; goes down towards...

Monday, November 10, 1834

1834 November Monday 10 Down the old bank to Halifax at 1 to Mr. Parker’s office about the Godley slopes (Godley road embankment).   Mr. Parker had been confined to the house with a bilious attack 2 or 3 days – Above 1/2 hour with him – To be a meeting of the commissioners on Monday – Mr. Adam will attend – To buy for me what adjoins me, and to prevent the 150 yards near the turnpike being sold at all, if possible – If not , to get it for me if law and money can do it – Mr. Parker said they had just sold to Isaac Green a field in Gibbet lane (for £900 I think he said) at about 2/10 a yard, the field through – or which field with 2 others, had been bought for £900 in 1832 – My 2 fields in Hopewood Lane are on Day’s map No. 277 = 2 DW 0 quarters 6 perches and No. 279 = 2 DW 0 quarters 5 perches – Mr. Eastwood going to give up business as a sort of working jeweller’s shop – The young man going into the stone trade, having married Mr. Greenwood’s sister (the mason’s so...
