Touched her last night and this morning, but not to amount to regular grubbling –

Finish morning – Breakfast at 9 25/.. – Packing for Miss Walker her drawing box – Work ditto – Box of repaired china, books etc. etc. and siding till 4 in the afternoon – She had no dinner but a glass of wine and a biscuit just before we went out at 4 20/.. –

Left her to go along the fields to Cliff hill and I came home – saw them all, and back at Lidgate in 1/2 hour at 6 1/2 – Dinner – tea – Miss W-  wrote 3 letters and 4 notes, and I looked over her account with her sister that she had copied out from the one I did, and then looked into Volume 1, Jameson’s Mineralogy – Looked at her banking book.  She had just got eighty pounds for her journey (would have got hundred with her) and had fifteen hundred and twenty left at the bank.

Came upstairs at 11 1/2 – Finish day, till between 5 and 6, and then rain, then hail, and then a snow shower which whitened the ground – Quite fair as I returned to Lidgate –

1837 March Thursday 16 7 3/4 12 3/4 A long pretty good one last night, she coming to me. 1835 September Thursday 17 7 20/.. 12 40/.. No motion these three days Ann at Cliff hill – Ready in 3/4 hour – Fine morning, sunny and F 57 1/2° at 8 10/.., at which hour, went out – At the Cascade bridge, in the farmyard, and about till 9 40/.. – Then got 1/2 my breakfast, then a little while with my father and Marian and went out for a few minutes for the tea get rather stronger, but staid out till 12 – At Adney bridge – Had Mr. Husband and Charles and James Howarth and Robert Schofield and his man Joseph Sharpe to get an oak down to make room for bridge - road – All pulled at it – unshaken – Knew Messers Harper and Gray would say taking the tree down spoilt the job – Sorry to take it, but thought the road required it – Would be too narrow without taking the tree down.   However, happening to turn to Charles Howarth and ask him, he thought he would let the tree stand if it was his – so, 1/2 of his mind already, I took off the men and, no harm being yet done to the

Saturday, September 26, 1835

1835 September Saturday 26 8 12 1/4 No kiss. Rain last night from between 11 and 12 to after one – Rainy morning, but not heavy rain till near 9, then fair and F 55° – Breakfast at 9 1/4 – Ann getting off her speech for the first stone laying and I writing out mine.   Put on my new pelisse and had my hair done – Marian was to have gone to the 1st stone laying, but got nervous and staid at home – Ann and I off at 10 3/4 in my own carriage with our 2 men behind, to Northgate hotel – Not quite ready for us – Began looking over the drawings of Northgate, and, by mistake, kept the people waiting and did not begin the ceremony till about 11 3/4, which lasted about 1/4 hour – Ann did her part very well – the coins of the king’s reign (William iv) i.e. a sovereign 1/2 ditto, 1/2 crown, shilling, and sixpence ( Could not get a 7/. piece; very scarce – Swanns, the bankers in York, had only seen two of William iv 7/. pieces) were put into a large mouthed green glass bottle a
