1833 October Monday 28 7 3/4 1 Fine morning, F 57 1/2° at 8 a.m. Breakfast at 8 55/.. and read the Hamburg Reporter of 25 October, no. 722 – Out at 10 – walked as Tuesday 22 instante mense and back at 1 – Trying on white satin gown – Had my horses put to my own carriage and out at 2 10/..  Had had a couple of lines from Lady Harriet to say sorry she could not go out with me today – met Countess de Blucher and Miss Ferrall in Oestergade, busy shopping – Drove along the Long Line and seashore to past the 1st fishing village till 3 40/.. – Got out and stopt 5 minutes looking at the fine view –  Back in 1 1/4 hour at 5 – Met Mr. Browne, who stopt his horse to say he had written me a note (vide line 9 below) – To say he had received my invitation for the ball on Wednesday and that Mrs. Browne would call and take me up at 7 – Mrs. Stuart Courtenay must get as she could – he had merely sent to tell her he had received her invitation – With me, he said it was a di...

1833 October Sunday 27 7 35/.. 11 55/.. Fine morning, F 58° at 9 a.m.   Breakfast at 9 10/.. Wrote and sent Thomas with little note to Countess de Blucher to ask if she and her sister and the children would drive out at 1 1/2 – Out at 10 – Direct to the ramparts – Got over a bridge into a long street on sort of timber that then crossed the long bridge into Amager – Turned right and went past the artillery barracks? then all along the fosse, and got to the Amager Gate, and thro’ the town home at 11 50/.. – Did a little German –  Thomas not ready to come in to prayers – Dressed – Out at 1 1/4 – Miss Ferrall and the children out – Drove Countess de Blucher along the long line as far as the 2nd barrière and back at 3 – 5 minutes there and then home – Sat some time between musing and dozing – Then read the evening service to Thomas – Then looking over Foreign Cashbook – Cannot understand the gain of about £7 on the money I got at Coblentz, Hanover and Hambu...

1833 October Thursday 24 9 12 1/2 Damp small rainy morning, F 56 1/2° at 9 and 10 a.m. – Breakfast at 10 10/.. and read the Hamburg Reporter of the 21st instante mense (no. 720) till 11 1/2 – Had had the waiter up – Asked him if he had traveled much – No! Rainy morning, F 54° at 8 – Breakfast at 9 10/.. in 1/2 hour – Out at 9 55/.. – Walked 25 minutes (1 1/4 in English) beyond the 1/2 mile-post on the Roskilde road to the barrier at the far end of the lake and trottoir – There at 11 1/4 in 1 20/.. hour and home at 12 40/.. – Disagreeable, windy day, raining more or less some part of the way going and almost all the way returning – Dressed – Mr. Browne called for 2 or 3 minutes at 1 1/2   to say the audience was to be at 2 p.m. tomorrow – Should be at Mrs. Browne’s at 1 3/4 to take up her and Mrs. Stuart Courtenay – Sent to order carriage for tomorrow and for tonight at 7 1/2 to go to Lady Harriet, and pay Comtesse Blucher for my play ticket of last night – From 2 1/4 to 5 20/.. at my accounts or rather calculating the values of different monies etc.  Dinner at 5 20/.. in an hour – Then calculating again till 7 – Dressed – Out at 7 40/.. – Countess Blucher not at home – ...

1833 October Monday 21 7 20/.. 11 10/.. Very fine morning, F 52° at 7 3/4 – Breakfast at 8 3/4 in 20 minutes – Wrote and left for Thomas to take, note to ‘I H. Sieveking, Esquire, Nyhaven 32’ to ask him to send me any time today after 1 o’clock the value of £50 in 3 bills of 100 dollars each, and 5 or 6 dollars in copper  marks, and the rest in small notes – Out at 9 1/2 to 21 minutes (10 3/4) beyond the 1/2 mile stone in Amager (a good English mile beyond it, and back at 12 1/4 – Not very fine fine when I set off, but soon cleared and became fine and sunny – Got a good warming – Found note from Lady Harriet asking me to go to the play tonight with her alone, and note that had come before Lady H-’s from Countess Blucher asking me to go with her and Miss Ferrall and take them up at 5 1/2 – Changed my dress – Hurried, for Mr. and Mrs. Peter Browne came before I was ready, before one – she seems a nice good person – Anything but worldly in appearance or manner – No...

  1833 October Sunday 20 9 3/4 12 3/4 Incurred a cross gently about nine neither quite thinking of π [Mariana] nor letting it alone – Rainy morning, F 53° at 10 a.m. – Breakfast at 11 – At 12 20/.. prayers, no liturgy or communion service and much of the prayers left out, but the lessons long, and altogether took me 1/2 hour, quite as long as with my cold I could bear to read aloud – Then all the day (dinner at 5 1/2 to 7 – sat musing) till 11 40/.. at my accounts with a little nap over them every now and then – for puzzling over the Hamburg bank account and could not make it all out – All my accounts settled up to arriving here – The day cleared about 1 a.m. and fine afternoon and fair in the evening, F 54° now at 12 1/4 tonight -- WYAS Finding Number SH:7/ML/E/16/0125
